MELASMA

Melasma is a common skin condition characterised by dark, discoloured patches, typically on the face. These patches often appear on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and nose. Melasma is caused by an overproduction of melanin, leading to uneven skin tone and pigmentation.

Melasma is very common, affecting 5-10% of the population, predominantly women, particularly those between the ages of 20 and 40. Approximately 90% of those affected are women, with hormonal changes being a key trigger, especially during pregnancy (also known as the “mask of pregnancy”).

Melasma is primarily caused by:

  • Sun Exposure: Ultraviolet (UV) rays can stimulate melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, causing pigmentation to darken.
  • Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy, the use of oral contraceptives, or hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can trigger melasma, especially in women.
  • Genetics: Melasma tends to run in families, with a genetic predisposition making certain individuals more susceptible.
  • Inflammation or Injury to the Skin: Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur following an injury, irritation, or treatments like chemical peels.

At Skin X Lulu, we offer advanced treatments tailored to address melasma and uneven pigmentation. Our solutions target the root causes, aiming to reduce pigmentation, even out skin tone, and restore clarity and radiance to your complexion.

Chemical Peels: Our customised chemical peels target melasma by exfoliating the skin and promoting cell turnover, helping to fade dark patches and reduce pigmentation over time.

Dermalogica Melanopro: This treatment is designed to tackle pigmentation concerns by addressing excess melanin production, leaving your skin clearer and more even-toned. It’s ideal for those looking to reduce the appearance of melasma and improve skin clarity.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation: Non-invasive laser treatments stimulate collagen and target hyperpigmentation, effectively reducing the appearance of melasma and providing a smoother, more even complexion.

Microneedling: Using fine needles, microneedling helps to stimulate collagen production and enhance the skin’s ability to heal, promoting the fading of dark spots and improving overall skin texture.

Cosmeceutical Skincare: We offer targeted skincare solutions using products from iS Clinical and Universkin, which help reduce pigmentation, protect from further sun damage, and even out the skin tone.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): Using your own blood’s growth factors, PRP stimulates skin regeneration, improving pigmentation and promoting a smoother, more even skin tone.

Collagen Stimulators: These injectables stimulate your skin’s natural collagen production, improving skin density and texture. By targeting deep layers of the skin, this treatment enhances skin quality, helping to fade pigmentation and create a more even, youthful complexion over time.

Airyday SPF: A broad-spectrum sunscreen designed to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, Airyday SPF helps prevent further pigmentation and is essential for maintaining results post-treatment. Daily sun protection is crucial in managing melasma and preventing flare-ups.

These treatments, combined with proper sun protection, can significantly improve melasma and skin pigmentation, offering long-term results.
